Case Study: Off-Shift Supervisor Set to Succeed

The problem

Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is a 483 bed community hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. They had been searching for a Radiology Supervisor for their Radiology Department for three months with no success.

Candidates were either under-qualified or required a salary above their payscale: not an uncommon problem for mid-level supervisory positions. It can be a challenge to find the right person with the proper experience and qualifications to take the next step into a leadership role, with a salary that is higher than staff but not at a Director/Manager level.

Furthermore, this position was for an off-shift (evenings) schedule, making it even more challenging. In the interim, the current Director of Radiology was splitting his time between days and evenings: not a great situation for long term success.

The solution

The Hospital had tried the usual passive methods to source candidates, mainly placing ads on job boards and in the local newspaper. By the time they came to GHS for assistance, it was obvious that any qualified candidates in the area would have already been notified.

We set up a strategic plan to call and email all Radiology Supervisors at hospitals in the Baltimore area and surrounding 100 mile radius. We compiled a lead list of over 200 potential candidates, and reached out during the afternoon and evening hours to assure we were targeting candidates able/willing to work this off-shift.

The outcome

We identified three top candidates that were qualified, interested, and within the given salary range. After a swift interview process, the hospital was able to secure their top choice.

We typically fill the following roles in imaging/radiology

  • CT Tech
  • Director/Manager of Radiology
  • Echovascular tech
  • Fluoroscopy Tech
  • Mammography Tech
  • MRI Tech
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist
  • Radiology Supervisor
  • Radiology Tech
  • Special Procedures Tech
  • Ultrasound tech
  • Vascular Tech
  • X-ray tech
